James C. Berner

James C. Berner is a Partner with GIP’s infrastructure equity funds, a part of BlackRock.  He focuses upon the GIP Mid-Cap equity funds (>$15 Bn. AUM). Mr. Berner leads efforts for the Mid-Cap funds in the energy and shipping sectors. He has originated and led over $3.5 billion of equity investments across those funds and is a member of their investment and management committees.  Mr. Berner has over 25 years of experience in infrastructure investing and lending.  Prior to joining BlackRock in 2017, Mr. Berner was a Managing Director with the Energy Infrastructure funds at First Reserve Prior to joining First Reserve, Mr. Berner was a Managing Director at General Electric Energy Financial Services based in the USA, UK and Singapore.  Prior to GE, he was a Vice President, Project and Structured Finance, at Deutsche Bank Securities Inc. Mr. Berner earned a B.A., cum laude, from Cornell University, an M.A. from Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies and an M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business.  He speaks German, Spanish and some French.
